Morning Meditation Sit — Seeking Guidance

Dear Friends,

In this week’s Torah portion
Abraham sends his servant Eliezar
To find a wife for Isaac.

As Eliezar nears his destination
He stops and prays.
He asks for chesed,
For kindness and generosity.
He prays for clarity and for his mission to go well.
He places these hopes upon his heart.

In the next moment
Rebecca appears.
Her generosity, kindness,
Courage and strength,
An answer to his prayers.

I find myself praying often these days,
Asking for help.
Seeking guidance.
Praying for healing and well-being
For friends and family, for trees and rivers, earth and sky.
Praying for the world.
Praying for our country.

I feel vulnerable when I pray,
My yearnings exposed.

I don’t necessarily expect a direct answer
To my prayers,
Though that would be welcome.

What I seek is connection,
A relationship with the visible and invisible worlds.
I seek awareness, gratitude
Willingness and courage.
I aim for alignment, clarity and perspective.

Sometimes I touch into the Mystery when I pray
Other times the mind just churns.

May we listen for our own prayers and allow them to rise.
May we place them upon our hearts.
And walk toward them with our lives.
