Morning Meditation Sit — Seeing Clearly, Acting Wisely — Tammuz Week 1

Rabbi Yael is traveling this week so there will be no live call-in sit on Thursday, July 4th.

The month of Tammuz began as the sun set on Tuesday evening (July 2nd).

The mystics teach that this month calls forth the rectification of eyesight:

Noticing when our perceptions are shaped by fear and anxiety.

Being aware how habits and expectations cloud our vision.

Seeing what is present, possible and new.

To engage in this rectification, the tradition teaches we practice:

Brachot: Seeing and naming the blessings that we encounter each day.

Tovot: Seeing the good in ourselves and the good in each other.

Chayim: Seeing the life force that flows through all creation.

These practices strengthen our capacity for bitachon, our ability to trust and engage in life with openness, vulnerability and strength.

May we welcome the month of Tammuz by lifting our eyes and expanding our perspectives so we can see clearly the pain and joys of life and direct our actions toward healing, love and justice.

Hodesh Tov, Blessings to all

Here is the meditation for this week, welcoming the month of Tammuz (listen to the recording in the player below):

Shalom.
