For Healing and Love

As the book of Beresheet comes to a close,
Jacob has died and the brothers are frightened
That Joseph will seek revenge for the hurt and pain of the past.

When they turn to him pleading for forgiveness.
Joseph responds,
Do not be afraid, I am not all-powerful.
Do not be afraid, our actions produce results
That are often different from what we intended,
Life unfolds in infinite mystery.
Joseph spoke these words with kindness right to their hearts. (Gen. 50:19-21)

The first book of the Torah ends
With a turn toward love
And a bow to the Infinite Presence that is with us always.

As we close the book of creation
May we be blessed with
         The generosity of earth,
         The adaptability of water,
         The vast perspective of sky,
And the fierce fires of compassion.

Let us speak in ways that inspire
Healing and blessing.

And let us be souls who, with grace and majesty,
Act for the benefit of all.
